St Albans Christmas Market

aliInAliChristmas Market at St AlbansWe kicked started 2016 Christmas season with a fantastic Sunday afternoon in the old town of St Albans.

There were the usual suspects; stalls with wooden sculptures, luxury chocolates, arts and crafts, star lantern shades, Christmas decorations, food and drink - especially the classic mulled wine or hot belgian chocolate with marshmallows.

Delicious chocolate bonbons filled with flavoured marshmallow fluffiness; latte, champagne, baileys to name a few at merely £1 each.  Did I mention the cheese - it was a favourite.  We all walked away with an exotic flavoured cheese for our cheese boards at Christmas.

To top the day off, we were treated to a lovely meal at the Arnold's before we headed to our Club meeting. Let the festivities begin!  Wishing you all Christmas spirit as you enter December.

Halloween Party

IMG 6868IMG 6493Dracula, mad doctors, witches, black cats and a mad man on the loose oh my! A night of ghoulish fun and great food and drink.

Great conversation and a few games kept everyone entertained. Skeletons, spiders and the grim reaper greeted us, as we entered at our own risk, for a howling night at the Douse's

Canal-side walk and Sunday Lunch

It was a beautiful day for an autumnal walk along the Grand Union Canal with club members, their families and friends of our club. We were delighted to welcome Karen Stephens, a  past member and catch up on her news; meet twins James and Emily for the first time with their brother Alfie and father Darren, great to see them all.

Altogether were 12 adults and 3 children who enjoyed the delightful stroll along the canal and then dined at the historic Boat Inn.

Enjoyed by all...to be repeated certainly.

Banger Racing that never was

The plan for Bank Holiday Monday was a trip to Banger Racing. Based on the fact that we, and anyone else we know, has only ever been when the weather has been British in the extreme, we did not expect either a hot, bright, sunny day, meaning the venue was really busy.

After a quick chat in the rather too busy car park, we concluded that we'd struggle to find space inside to spread out for a relaxed afternoon of picnicing and watching cars get destroyed and decided to picnic at Emberton Park.

A drive around the park and we found a nice quiet spot, laid out the rugs and relaxed. Helen R returned some bean bags to Helen D, which proved useful for entertainment. We also undertook some blind tasting of Oreo cookies vs own brand and Phil and Matthew confirmed that you can tell the real thing.

The younger party members took a walk around the lake for ice creams to complete the Bank Holiday properly.

A nice relaxing afternoon and we'll try out the Banger Racing when the weather isn't quite so nice!

Pub of the Month July

British summer greeted us at our first Pub-of-the-Month to our joy. Firstly we sat and enjoyed the sun's rays from The Swan's beautiful beer garden. Elizabeth kindly joined us for pre-drinks before her wine evening. She bought along two lovely guests, some will know him - Steve and his partner Lucia.

Although the wait for food was long due to them being over stretched, there was some very interesting conversations being had. With the light, 10pm came around very quickly. Nigel enjoyed an envious dessert and we parted ways, sober but merry.

Our next one will be Saturday 17th September if you would like to join us please email us This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.. Venue is Ye Olde Swan, Newport Road, Woughton on the Green, Milton Keynes, Buckinghamshire, MK6 3BS which is a Chef & Brewer pub and from our experience does reasonable food. Meeting time 7.00p.m.
