President Night 2013

Half the club on President snightHalf the club on President snightA good turnout for President snight as usual with the welocme addition of our Assitiant Governor Caarola and her husband Jens. The celebration of the last Rotary year was held in the Wheatsheaf Little Brickhill, where we had a magnificent dinner served by keen and diligent staff.

Karen had devised some challenging games for us which we all enjopyed. Nigel gave a synopsis of the past 12 months and gave his thanks to his council especially to |Helen R who has giving the club three excellent years as secreatary. This was echoed by the club as she was awared Rotarian of the year. (images to follow)

Towcester racing

Towcester 2 ClubBrickhills Children at Towcester racingEighteen brave souls visited Towcester Racecourse on a freezing cold Sunday in February where the wind chill factor was -3.  Everyone enjoyed learning about the various betting methods, some the hard way, and any winnings were quickly spent on hot drinks!

Ready Steady Cook

Ready Steady CookTwo teams of four battled it out for the coveted title of “Winner” of the Ready Steady Cook competition. We were judged on three categories, flavour, presentation and complexity of recipe.

With a few key ingredients the creative juices flowed and the main course menu raised the bar. Beef goulash with sweet potato frits and sugared peas. The dessert team were under pressure to follow a superb presentation.

Tropical fruit melted mellow (upside-down) cake served with chocolate sauce was offered up to a nail biting finish. The scores were in and by a very small margin – the dessert team won. Well done Morgan, Lesley and Toby.

Milton Keynes Museum

Christmas Visit to the MK MuseumListening to Santa with avid interestIt has become quite a tradition in our club to visit the Victorian Christmas at Milton Keynes Museum. One Saturday afternoon the Douses, Banfield-Tuohys, Richardsons and Dixons enjoyed a lovely retro afternoon in Wolverton.

We enjoyed mulled wine, made Christmas decorations, played blow football, operated switchboards and bakelite phones, browsed the craft stalls, had some nice cake and tea, played pianola and looked at all the usual MK Museum exhibits. Some members, who are really far to young for this, even spotted toys just like they used!

Of course a trip to the museum at this time of year would not be complete without a visit to The Man Himself, and we certainly had some interesting conversations with him! The Museum is a true gem of Milton Keynes, a chance for hands on history and a tranquil oasis in our modern city. If you've never been : why not try it out now?

Christmas Party 2012

Santa with his wife on his lapTeam A playing games

Christmas was celebrated by the club with a slap up party at President Nigels house. Karen deivided us all up into 3 teams and we played our usual series of silly games. Some of them were taxing the little grey cells this year as we had to come up with captions for photos. Good fun.

Food was plentiful and delicious and we all over indulged as usual. It was great to see so many of the club and partners in attendance.

Treasure Hunt round old Aylesbury

kids eating dinner at Pizza ExpressArnolds figuring out the clues

Twenty one member sof the club family and friends turned out to do a fantastic treasure hunt around Old Aylesburty. What a pretty palce it is too.

It waqs organised by Neil and Helen Douse. We split up into teams and set out to conquer the clues. We all did very well although the Douses and Richardsons who set out last actually came in first!!

We then all descended on Pizza Express and had some lunch. A terrific day out with lots of laughs and great fun was had by all.

Classic cars at Bletchley Park

A Triumph with Art Deco stylingThe Brickhills with the Foreign Legion

Sunny to start with and rain that came later on. None of it spoiled a terrific day out with friends.Bletchley Park was host to a collection of classic cars , buses, motor bikes and scooters.

Nigel was in his element looking at the cars and engines, Karen was surpirisingly knowledgable and Emma just enjoyed the sunshine and beautiful cars.

Daniel and Cameron were impatiently waiting for Phil to appear from the lecture he attending, with their lunch. Cars today just do not have the same attention to detail as the older cars or the styling just for the sake of pleasure.

2012 Start the year BBQ

everyone enjoying the eveningthe chef Andy chatting to GrahamNigel started his year off with a club BBQ hosted by the Sheldons. The weather was kind to us and we were able play some games that Karen had devised. Flapping fish was harder than it looked!!

Andrew cooked us a mexican feast with home made salsa and chicken Fahitas that were delicious. The children were so entertaining and I think everyone enjoyed themselves. A great way to start his year off.
