Victorian Christmas at MK Museum

Back to school in the 1890'slearning and listeningOn Sunday December 12th, the afternoon following the Christmas party, the Douse family, the Richardsons and the Tuohy/Banfields met up with two other ex-members' families for a Victorian Christmas at the MK Museum. It has become somewhat of a tradition for some of us, and it is an afternoon we would certainly recommend.

Following mulled wine and carols in the parlour we then spent some time in the school room, making Christmas decorations. Unfortunately Nigel didn't display his spectacular colouring in, but all the younger members of the party had fun! Then we went into the toys room, where the two Helens were comparing childhood memories. (Yes, they really are old enough for their pasts to be in a museum!) Toast-making in the kitchen was followed by the street of shops. Then past the craft stalls and on to the main attraction - Santa! It has got to be the best value Santa in MK. The kids had a long time chatting with the big man, before getting two gifts which were well worth the £5 fee.

As always the coffee & cakes in the cafe were well recieved, and amazingly cheap! Then the high point of a trip up here, as far as our kids are concerned - the telephone museum! Nearly an hour was spent in here with the kids ringing each other (some of them have never seen a rotary telephone dial before, of course!) and playing on the switchboard, before heading home. A lovely way to spend a Christmassy Sunday afternoon! See all the pictures here.
