New Rotary Year 2016-2017
At the start of the first meeting of the year Alison handed over the Presidential chain of office to Sue our President for the Rotary Year 2016-2017.
In turn Sue presented Graham with the chain for Vice President.
The meeting was attended by Former District Governor Sandy Aked-Walker and David her husband where Sue and her Council set out the plan for the club for the year ahead.
Sandy commented that The Brickhills was a really good club with a strong vision for what they want to acheive in the forthcoming year and she wished Sue a really enjoyable year ahead.
Presidents night 2016
Saturday the 25th June saw us celebrating the end of the Rotary year 2015-2016 and saying thanks to outgoing President Alison for her contribution to the year and welcoming in the new Rotary year with our incoming President Sue.
As was Alison's wish we went to Grosvenor Casino in Luton organsied beautifully by incoming President Sue; after all we are the casino Kings and Queens of Rotary!
The meal was good and we had some token with which to play the tables and machines. Some of us were luckier than others but it was unanimously agreed that it was a first class evening.
Alison honoured her council which was appreciated and she awarded the Rotarian of the Year which was almost a unanimous vote for Lesley who has contributed enormously to the club and she will be greatly missed next year. Well done Lesley and thank you from all the club members.

District Handover dinner 2016
June 28th was the night that District Governor Prue Dixon of Stevenage Club handed over the chains of office to Chalmers Cursley of Amersham Club. It was a great evening held at a venue in Hertforshire. Andrew and Elizabeth were invited as special guests of Chalmers and his wife Barbara. Chalmers in his inaugral speech 'blamed' Elizabeth for enthusing him for District office when she recruited him on the PR and Communications committee of 2008. It was a lovely tribute and much appreciated.
Cheryl Law takes the Governor Elect position and Dave Ford the Governor Nominee post.

MK Marathon: 2nd May
Another glorious day for Milton Keynes with over 8,000 entries over all events, thousands of spectators and close to 600 keen event crew coming together for the 5th best and biggest MK Marathon event.
This year The Brickhills Rotary team were stationed at the 6 mile water station. Vast numbers of bottles handed out to thousands of runners and then cleared away again afterwards. The route may have changed (we had a much prettier water station than in previous years!) but the runners were still amazing, and best of all, the rain stayed away!
‘Great marathon, extremely well organised and very friendly, and never realised what a lovely place Milton Keynes is!’

Lend a Hand day: 23rd April
As part of their community support the Rotary clubs in Milton Keynes take part in the annual 'Lend A Hand Day' in partnership with Age UK.
Some of our members and their families went along today. They carried out, free of charge, small tasks which older people may not be able to safely undertake themselves, most often gardening, cleaning or some DIY.
Vintage tea party success
What a great afternoon we had on Sunday the 17th April in the Bow Brickhill Pavillion.
Over 50 guests attended, many in costume to eat delicious sandwiches and cakes ( Helen Douse) all made and served by club members and their families.
Entertainment was provided by Phil ( honorary member of our club ) on the piano and singer Jessica Willis daughter of the event organise Leslie. A quiz was devised by Sue ( Vice President) and the speaker was Helen Seddon previous club member and she spoke about Bletchley Park where she is a volunteer guide.
The member of Parliament of Milton Keynes South attended and drew the raffle for us. It was a really excellent afternoon and the club raised
£798.54 for Literacy Boxes for African children. A grand effort all round.

Easter Tea: 28 March
Helen used her baking skills to impress the club members into agreeing to make her star baker for the forthcoming Vintage Tea Party.
Her Easter Egg overflowed with chocolate goodness as the younger members vied for front position.
They were able to run off the calories by the stream trying to fish out their football, luckily Nigel had a decorating pole to hand to assist in the rescue.
